Ancient Shorelines Prehistoric Settlements

A crew from Indepth Marine recently completed a project in South East Alaska for a prominent US University searching for signs of prehistoric civilizations in the vicinity of ancient shorelines. We spent 12 days aboard the classic wooden fishing vessel "Crane" combing the depths between Ketchikan and Juneau.

Working at depths as great as 350 feet with the side scan sonar and mosaicing software, several promising sites were revealed. The ROV was launched in 3 locations for a closer look, accounting for approximately 12 hours of video footage.

What did we find? We are sworn to secrecy, until the results are published by the University. Check back for updates!
